From the President

Welcome to 2012. While it’s hard to believe it’s actually summer at the moment, it appears most clubs are working overtime to protect beachgoers and holiday makers. Despite our best efforts, there have been five coastal drownings since Christmas Eve, a real tragedy and a sad reminder of the dangers of swimming at unpatrolled locations.

Summer Edition of the Member Services

With summer finally making its way here, what better way to kick off the season with the Summer Edition of the Member Services Update. This contains information on the upcoming events and activities that are of interest to the Branch Member Services Representatives, and hope it is of interest to you.

Also included below is the circular and nomination pack for the Youth Opportunity Makers Workshop and looking forward to meeting some of our fantastic youth members at this program.

Best luck to those who are heading along to Country Champs this weekend – I will be checking out the SLSNSW facebook page to see if you get snapped in any photos!

National RIP Current Awareness Day

Advertised in Club Mail this week will be the opportunity for any club to be involved in the National RIP Current Awareness Day. This is the second event of this type, with numerous surf clubs around the country releasing dye into the surf to highlight the existence of rip currents. Surf lifesavers will also be on the beach to answer questions from the general public, and discuss the best ways to identify rip currents.

We would like as many clubs as possible to be involved in this community education event, so register your interest with Anna by emailing aoneil@surflifesaving.com.au by 14th November.

All equipment and information required will be provided to the club: instructions on the use of the dye, media releases, posters to advertise to public, etc.

So, get involved and let’s dye the state purple!

Regards, Pamela Simon
