New Flag Standard
This patrol season will see the introduction of a new patrol flag standard which will be employed across all NSW beaches. These changes will come into effect from the first day of patrol for the 2011-12 season.
There will be two changes that will take place. These are:
- The traditional ‘blue flags’ which were used to identify the surf-craft boundary zone will be replaced by black and white quartered flags. This change will bring Surf Life Saving clubs into line with the new Australian Standard.
- The traditional red and yellow patrol flags will now be complimented by a red and yellow ‘feathered flag’. This ‘feather’ will enhance the identification of patrolled swimming areas on beaches.
Surf Life Saving NSW will be providing all clubs with a set of both new types of flags before the start of the season. This will allow all clubs to be in line with the changes before commencing patrols on Saturday 24th September 2011.
