Mollymook
president Rod Austin must be a very
proud man as he recalls the club as it
was when he joined as a youth and now
sees how the club has grown, especially
over this term of six years as
president, after being secretary for
several years immediately prior to his
presidency.
The entire club management committee
must also be as proud as Rod, including
Vice President Geoffrey Starkey who
stepped in as president when Rod was
Secretary and has remained on as a vice
president with Jim Bryant holding the
treasurers position.
Kevin Whitford holding the Nippers
chairman position and Glenn Matthews
for five years retaining the Club
Captains position throughout Rod's
term, they have formed continuity and
the nucleus of a very competent strong
Management committee, but Geoffrey who
retired from work this year finds
himself busy as he is also holding down
the secretary's job, all while
renovating his home, if anyone can take
this fulfilling position off him to
become part of the management
committee, don't hesitate to contact
Geoffrey on 44552083.

Patrol
Equipment
Please ensure that all patrol
equipment is returned to the Patrol
room at the end of patrols, washed and
stored away in an orderly manner.
Radios are to be left on charge after
each patrol and stored appropriately.
Rescue Boards are only to be used for
training ( with the permission of the
Club Captain, Chief Instructor or the
Patrol Captain). Damage to rescue
boards is to be reported in the patrol
log-book. The only other use for rescue
boards is to perform rescues. Any other
damage to patrol equipment is also to
be recorded in the patrol log-book.
All members must use rubber gloves in
all first-aid, CPR/EAR cases.
USE of ATV - Only qualified drivers are
permitted to drive this
vehicle.
Readiness
for Patrols
The patrol times listed in the calender
are the times our patrols need to be on
the beach, therefore start time of 9:00
am would need members to be ready by
that time not just arriving at the
beach. All patrol members are required
to be 'on the beach' during their
allocated patrol times and correctly
attired.
Substitutes for Patrols
If you can not make a patrol, you
should get another member to do the
patrol for you.
Patrol Uniforms
The wearing of the red & yellow
quartered cap and SLSA surf Rescue
patrols shirt and shorts and wide brim
hat is compulsory. Members are
encouraged to wear the shorts and
T-shirt for protection from the sun and
to identify the patrolling lifesavers
to the public. If you do not have a a
patrol uniform contact The regalia
Officer or Secretary. If a patrol
member does not wear protective
clothing on patrol, the patrol captain
must make a note of this in the Patrol
log book for legal reasons. Sunscreen
will be provided for use and
protection.
Wear the red & yellow quartered
cap
The Surf Lifesavers cap is an
Australian icon that identifies a
Lifesaver who earns and annually
updates the proficiency of their
"Bronze Medallion," only proficient
members are entitled to wear the
Australian Surf Lifesavers red and
yellow quartered patrol cap, the cap
makes the Lifesaver far more visible
when in the water and on the beach.
All members that wear the patrol
quartered cap are volunteer surf
lifesavers or hold a "Surf Rescue
Certificate" as a probationary surf
lifesaver. Mollymook's club competition
cap is black with two white stripes and
is only worn during competition, All
competitors must also have completed
reassessment and compulsory volunteer
patrol hours.
To update the proficiency at the
beginning of every season a lifesavers
physical fitness and knowledge is
re-tested by a run - swim - run to be
completed in under eight minutes; then
complete simulated rescues using a
rescue board and tube, and general
knowledge of the bronze training is
also tested . All these skills combine
to maintain lifesavers to be an
effective member of a patrol team
