Nippers are surf life saving club
competitive members that range from the
ages of toddler up to the under 14
years old age group. Nippers are our
young pride, and grow into juniors and
cadets in the senior ranks as time goes
by.
Nippers are an integral part of the
surf club, as it is important to teach
the youngsters the ways of the beach
and life saving, so that when they are
old enough to become life savers and do
beach patrols, they are well versed in
the proper methods of life saving.
We hope that all children will enjoy
their environment in Nippers and at the
same time increase their confidence and
ability in the water and on the
sand.
Procedure
Each Sunday morning parents and
children gather in the Club House at 9
am for a brief communications meeting
this is followed by a series of warm-up
exercises on the sand in preparation
for sand and water events.
Carnivals
The club encourages all nippers to
participate in carnivals. Children have
the opportunity to represent their club
whilst competing against children from
other clubs. They develop a sense of
belonging and a sense of responsibility
towards other team members of their
team.
Nippers participate in surf skills,
competition and surf education
activities. Children aged 5 and 6 may
join on educational basis and children
aged 7 and up may take part in
competition at Club, Branch and State
levels.
The emphasis in nippers is on fun and
education. Children in each age group
gain a Surf Education award during the
season.
