As you may have seen on Sunday evening, the Channel 7 program, Sunday Night, aired a story on the death of Saxon Bird at the 2010 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

As I wrote to you previously, SLSA decided not to participate in the story and instead issued a statement to Channel 7, which can be viewed here.

In addition to this, we also published a page on the Surf Life Saving website dedicated to keeping you informed on the actions SLSA is taking to implement recommendations made by the Queensland State Coroner and an Independent Panel. ¬†These actions, together with both the Coroner’s final report and the Independent Panel’s report, can be viewed at www.sls.com.au/inquiries.

We have since released an official response to Sunday Night’s story, which has been published on our website.

Once again, I would appreciate your assistance in sharing this information with members and supporters, and would welcome constructive feedback to ensure we collectively continue our commitment to improve our standards for water and event safety, for members, beach goers and the general community.
